Angola National Day

Likewise this is known as Independence Day or “Dia da IndependĂȘncia” in Angola. This day commemorates Angola’s independence from Portugal (National Day of Portugal) on the 11th November 1975. This came after many years of struggle and resistance against Portuguese colonial rule.

Firstly Angola’s fight for independence began in the early 1960s. This started with the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) as well as the National Liberation Front of Angola (FNLA). There was also the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA). These groups launched a guerilla war against the Portuguese colonial administration, which eventually led to Angola’s independence in 1975.

Today, Angola National Day is celebrated with parades, speeches, cultural performances, and other public events across the country.
