The National Day of Mozambique is on the 25 June (Independence from Portugal 1975). It is also known as Dia da Independência in Portuguese. The country was colonized by the Portuguese in the late 15th century.

Likewise the struggle for independence began in the 1960s. This was led by the Mozambique Liberation Front (FRELIMO), which fought against Portuguese colonial rule for over a decade. Firstly Samora Machel played a key role in Mozambique’s struggle for independence from Portugal. Secondly he was born on the 29th September 1933, in the Gaza Province of Mozambique. Finally he died on the 19th October 1986, in a plane crash near the Mozambique-South Africa border.
