National Day of Turkmenistan

national dayThe National Day of Turkmenistan is on the 27th October (Independence Day, declaration of independence from the Soviet Union 1991). This was after the end of the Cold War much like Ukraine who had all been part of the Soviet Union.

Likewise as you will notice that this day is also known as Independence Day or Day of Neutrality. This is an important day as the day celebrates the day when Turkmenistan gained independence from the Soviet Union in 1991. Turkmenistan is a Central Asian country known for its vast deserts, rich cultural heritage, and ancient history.

There was Saparmurat Niyazov  who was the first president of Turkmenistan and played a key role in the country’s independence from the Soviet Union. There was also Magtymguly Pyragy who was a well-known Turkmen poet, philosopher as well as a musician. Finally there is also Oguz Khan who was a legendary Turkic leader who is believed to have founded the Turkmen nation. He is celebrated for his contributions to Turkmen history and culture.
