The National Day of Libya is on the 1 September (Coup d’état of 1969). Italy occupied Libya since 1911. This day is also known in Libya as the Libyan Independence Day or Revolution Day. It celebrates the day in 1951 when Libya gained independence from Italy.

The National Day of Liberia is on the 26 July (Proclamation of the Republic: independence from the United States 1847). It is also known as Independence Day and commemorates Liberia’s independence from the American Colonization Society on the 26th July 1847.
The National Day of Lesotho is on the 4 October (Independence from the United Kingdom 1966). See the history of the country and the hero’s of their independence. It is a public holiday in Lesotho for Basotho people to reflect on their history.
The National Day of Kenya is on the 12 December (Independence Day, from the United Kingdom 1963; Republic Day, (Jamhuri Day), 1964). You will note that the day is also known as Jamhuri Day. This means Republic Day in Kenya which is in the Swahili language.

The National Day of Ghana is on the 6 March (Independence Day, from the United Kingdom 1957). Likewise it celebrates the day in 1957 when Ghana who was formerly known as the Gold Coast. They gained its independence from British colonial rule. This is a big day in Ghana and it is a public holiday in Ghana.
The National Day of Gambia is on the 18th February (Independence Day, from the United Kingdom 1965). As you will notice that this day celenrates Gambia’s independence from British colonial rule which ended on the 18th February 1965.
The National Day of Gabon is on the 17th August (Independence from France 1960) (French National Day). It is also known as Gabonese Independence Day and marks the country’s independence from France in 1960. Gabonese people celebrate their Gabonese sovereignty as well as the progress made since independence.

The National Day of Ethiopia is on the 28th May (Downfall of the Derg Day, the Derg regime is defeated 1991). It is known as “Derg Downfall Day” or “Fall of the Derg” . This celebrates the day when the Marxist regime, known as the Derg, was overthrown in 1991 after 17 years in power.

The National Day of Eritrea is on the 24 May (Eritrean rebels enter the capital Asmara 1991; independence from Ethiopia 1993). It celebrates Eritrea’s independence from Ethiopia, which was achieved on the 24th May 1991. This after a 30-year-long struggle for independence.
